Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 1, 2026
The short version
Billy has no accounts and no server. Your bills, amounts, due dates and notes are stored in a database on your iPhone and are never sent to us. We never see your name, email address, phone number or financial details, because we never ask for them and have nowhere to put them. The only data we receive is anonymous, aggregated usage and crash information used to fix bugs and improve the app.
1. Who we are
Billy is developed and operated by:
Marco Davalos
Avenida Sergio Bernales 215, Lima, Peru
Email: support@theboringbuilders.xyz
This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use the Billy app or visit our website at theboringbuilders-billy.web.app.
2. About Billy
Billy is a bill organizer for iPhone. You add a bill, pick a due date, and Billy keeps reminding you until you mark it paid. It works entirely offline and does not require an account.
3. No account, no sign-in
There is no sign-up, no login, and no user profile. We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, date of birth, postal address, contacts or any government or financial identifier. Billy does not connect to your bank, card or any payment provider, and it cannot pay bills on your behalf — you tell Billy what you owe, and Billy reminds you.
4. Data you enter, and where it lives
Everything you create in Billy is written to a private database file on your device and stays there. This includes:
- Bills: name, emoji, amount, currency, category, notes and how often they repeat
- Due dates and payment status, including when you marked something paid or skipped
- App preferences such as theme, currency and your reminder schedule
- Your answers to the optional setup questions asked when you first open the app, which we use only to tailor the app's suggestions to you
This data is not uploaded to us, not synced to a cloud database, and not shared with any third party. We have no server that stores your bills, so there is no copy of your data for us to read, hand over, lose or be breached.
Because your data sits in the app's own storage, it is protected by your device's security — your passcode, Face ID and iOS file encryption. If you have iCloud Backup or encrypted computer backups turned on, your Billy data may be included in those device backups. Those backups are handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy and are not accessible to us.
5. Backups you create yourself
Billy lets you export a backup file containing your bills, payment history and settings. The file is created on your device and handed to the iOS share sheet, where you choose the destination — Files, AirDrop, a messaging app, or a cloud drive of your choosing. Billy never uploads it anywhere on its own, and we never receive it.
Once a backup leaves Billy, it is an ordinary unencrypted file under your control, and whatever service you send it to applies its own privacy terms. Restoring a backup reads the file you pick and replaces the data currently in the app.
6. Reminders and alarms
Billy's reminders are generated and delivered entirely on your device. To ring at the right time, Billy stores a small schedule in a private storage area shared with its own alarm components. That schedule contains only dates, times, a count of how many bills are involved and whether they are overdue — it never contains bill names, amounts or notes.
Reminders are optional and you can turn them off at any time in the app or in your device settings.
7. Permissions Billy may ask for
Billy requests the minimum access needed for a specific feature, and each request is optional. If you decline, only the related feature stops working.
- Alarms: so Billy can ring to remind you when a bill is due or overdue.
- Screen Time (Family Controls): iOS asks for this because Billy uses Apple's device activity scheduling as a daily background timer to refresh your upcoming alarms. Billy does not read your Screen Time data and has no interest in which apps you use or for how long.
- Photos, camera and location: requested only when you pick a file to restore a backup. iOS asks for these because of the system file and photo picker; Billy reads only the single file you select and does not browse your library, take pictures or track your location.
- Local network: used by the system alarm feature on your device. No data is sent to us over your network.
8. Analytics and crash reports
We use PostHog to collect anonymous product analytics and error reports so we can find crashes and understand which features are actually used. This is limited to non-identifying technical and usage information such as device model, operating system version, app version, language, and which screens and actions were used, together with a random identifier that is not linked to your identity.
We do not send your bills, amounts, due dates, notes, category names or backup files to PostHog or anywhere else. Analytics data is processed by PostHog on servers in the United States and is retained only as long as it is useful for improving the app.
We do not use advertising networks, we do not track you across other apps or websites, and we do not sell or share your data with data brokers.
9. Other connections the app makes
- Fonts: the setup screens load a typeface from Google's font service, which means your device makes a request to Google and Google may see your IP address. No app data is included in that request.
- App Store review prompt: Billy may ask Apple to display its standard "rate this app" dialog. Any rating or review you leave is handled by Apple, and we only ever see the public result.
- Opening links: tapping a link in the app may open your browser, the App Store or your device settings.
10. Payments
Billy is distributed through the Apple App Store. If we offer a paid version or subscription, the transaction is handled entirely by Apple: we do not collect, see or store your card number, billing address or any payment details. Purchase and refund matters are governed by Apple's terms.
11. This website
Our website is a static site hosted on Google Firebase Hosting. It sets no advertising or tracking cookies, embeds no third-party trackers, and has no contact forms or newsletter sign-up. Like any web host, Firebase Hosting records standard technical request logs, which can include your IP address and browser type, for security and reliability purposes.
12. Keeping and deleting your data
Since your bills live only on your device, you are in control of them. You can delete individual bills at any time inside the app, and deleting Billy from your device removes its database and settings along with it. There is no account to close and no request you need to send us, because we hold no copy to delete. Remember to check any backup files you exported yourself, and any device backup that may contain them.
Anonymous analytics data cannot be tied back to you or your device by us, so we are generally unable to isolate and delete it individually. If you would prefer that we stop collecting it, contact us at support@theboringbuilders.xyz.
13. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete personal data held about you, to object to certain processing, or to withdraw consent. In Billy's case most of these rights you can exercise directly: the data is on your device, you can read and edit all of it in the app, export it as a file, and erase it by deleting the app.
If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, our legal basis for the limited processing we do is our legitimate interest in keeping the app stable and improving it (anonymous analytics and error reports), and performance of our agreement with you to provide the app itself. If you are a California resident, note that we do not sell or share personal information, and we do not use it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
To exercise any right or ask a question, email support@theboringbuilders.xyz. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
14. International transfers
We are based in Peru, and the anonymous analytics described above are processed in the United States. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for these transfers. Your bills themselves are never transferred anywhere — they stay on your device.
15. Children's privacy
Billy is intended for general audiences and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16.
16. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Billy evolves. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date above, and we will tell you in the app if the change is significant. If we ever introduce optional accounts or cloud sync, we will update this policy before that feature ships.
17. Contact us
